Cottonwood Lake - Winter Scenery Around The Lake
(February 2006)
The temperature reached the high 40's in Buena Vista and I thought a hike around Cottonwood Lake was in order. There was still lots of snow in the shady parts of the region, but since we've had about two to three weeks of sunny days and little snow precipitaion, it was a very good place to hike. |

seperates Spring Canyon from Chalk Creek Canyon. |
I came across those canoe seemingly abandoned and stuck in the lake's ice. |
The south facing side of the canyon, facing the lake. |
There were actually two ice fishing camps right on the lake! |
Looking back towards the edge of Cottonwood Lake, the large
mountains of the Mt. Princeton look huge in the background. |
Walking further up Spring Canyon, I noticed this large aspen field. I think I know where I will be visiting during the fall foliage photography season. ;) |
In the boat ramp area that is very busy during the summer months, a long tourist (who's truck had Kansas plates) lays out in the sun. |
Heading out, at the junction of the Cottonwood Lake turnoff and Cottonwood Pass Road, I got a nice shot of Mt. Yale. |
