Community-Wide Cancer Support GroupColumbines

A community-wide cancer support group for Chaffee County was created in December 2005 by cancer survivors and caregivers as a measure to provide support and friendship to those who are suffering from this affliction. Anyone who currently has cancer, or has survived cancer or is a caregiver of someone suffering from cancer, is very welcome to attend these meetings in Buena Vista.

This cancer support meeting is held every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Manor (301 Alsina - behind Jan's Restaurant) in Buena Vista. If you are interested in attending or have questions, please call Daryl Huschka (719) 395-4795 or Steve Garufi at Journey Of Hope Counseling (719) 395-2426.

Other issues about this group:

-There are no membership dues.
-Strict confidentiality is maintained as a group standard.
-Group attendees may remain anonymous.
-While medical issues may be discussed, the group should not take the place of a medical advice giver.
-While the faciliator happens to be a psychotherapist by trade, it is not a therapeutic group.
-The group takes no distinct spiritual or religious position. (People of all faiths are welcome.)

Two more issues:
-Cancer survivors and caregivers in surrounding areas such as Salida, Fairplay and Leadville are encouraged to attend.
-We like to have fun!
